Gideon's Fleece

On my way home tonight I was listening to (the now Fr.) Peter Jon Gillquist. One song that I would always pass over until recently really kind of jumped out at me tonight. Called Gideon's Fleece. I admit I don't completely understand the reference (maybe one of you know) but I enjoy the song anyways. I'll share a bit of it that I like.

I'm waiting for a force of ten thousand
just to conquer my fears.
Although I'm pursuing a dream that
has pursued me for years.
(Chorus)
...I march to a land that's unknown.
Leaving behind my doubts and my pride.
You assured me I'm never alone.

Who doesn't feel they need a force of ten thousand to conquer their fears?

Prayer for the Acceptance of God's Will

Lord, I do not know what to ask of you. You know better than me what my needs are. You love more than I know how to love. Help me to see clearly my real needs which I do not see. I open my heart to You. Examine and reveal to me my faults and sins. I put all my trust in You. I have no other desire than to fufill Your will. Teach me how to pray. Pray in me. Amen.

And, by the way, Christ is Risen!

The reference for Gideon's fleece is Judges 6:36-40. The reference to the force of ten thousand is the whole chapter of Judges 7. This is a great story. Gideon had lots of doubts about doing what God wanted him to do. God didn't mind him questioning and asking for signs, but in the end, God proved to Gideon that He was the one who would win the battle. So often we wait to do God's will because we think we need to figure it all out ourselves. In the end we need to step out in faith and follow God, knowing He will be with us and will give us the victory. We don't need a force of 10,000, we only need God. Thanks for reminding me of this story! I'd like to hear the whole song.

The Lord keeps telling Gideon to strip his army down to a smaller and smaller group. Obviously, Gideon thinks bigger is better, but has to learn that God's power is manifested in weakness.

Gosh, thanks! I'm going to read that tonight. I guess I don't need a force of ten thousand then.

In this land of distraction

souls starved while commanded to feast.

But who will take action?

Not me, for I am the least.

I'm waiting for a force of ten thousand

just to conquer my fears.

Although I'm pursuing a dream that

has pursued me for years.

Chorus: When will my soul find rest?

When will my mind be at peace?

How long will I put you to the test

of Gideon's Fleece.

With my bride and my son by my side, I march to a land that's unknown.

Leaving behind my doubts and my pride.

You assured me I'm never alone.

Chorus
